Bondy Comes up Big in Overtime Win Against the Cougars

Aberdeen, S.D. - Taking the sudden death 2-1 contest, the Northern State Wolves Soccer team defeats University of Sioux Falls. The Wolves snap a winless streak and improve to 7-5-1 overall and 4-5-1 in NSIC play. The Cougars of USF fall to 1-11-1 on the year and 1-8-1 in the league.

The Cougars were the first to score in the game just 16 minutes into the first half of play. Northern was unable to answer back before the half was over.Sophomore Allie Macdonald tied the game up for the Wolves 33 minutes into the second period off a stellar Kay Hernandez assist. The goal which came from the top of the box, marks Macdonald's fifth of the season. The two teams battled it out to remain tied through regulation.

The first overtime period was racked with chances for the WOlves as a majority of the play was in the USF end. However niether team was able to connect forcing the sudden death second overtime period. The Wolves were hungry for a win as the kicked up the intensity moving into their last chances. After an outstanding finger tip save, by winning keeper Brittany Tietz, NSU had only minutes to take the game. Andrea Boisner won position of the ball for NSU faking out members of the USF defense to serve up Anna Bondy with a shot attempt. Bondy sent a laser just past the diving Cougar tender to score her third goal of the season in game winning fashion.

Northern outshot Sioux Falls in the game 26 to 15 with a total of ten shots on goal. Tietz recorded her seventh win of the season notching six important saves in the process. Bondy and Macdonald led the team with five shots and one goal a piece. The win lifts the spirits of the Wolves as the look to a Sunday match-up with Southwest Minnesota State University.

The Wolves and Mustangs will face off from Jerde Field tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.. SMSU has seen the top 25 this season and currently sits in second in the NSIC with only one loss on the year. NSU is currently in the hunt for the eighth spot in the NSIC and  bid to the conference tournament.
