Wolves Set to Host Bemidji State Saturday

Northern State returns home after a thrilling come-from-behind win over Minot State last weekend 22-21 as Jared Jacobson hit Michael Alberts for a one-yard touchdown pass that setup Jacobson's two-point conversion keeper for the win. Bemidji State is coming off a 26-17 loss Saturday at home vs. U-Mary.

Scouting the Beavers
Running back Avery Walker leads BSU and is fourth in the league with 729 yards rushing this season. Walker is averaging nearly five yards per carry and has five rushing TDs in 2013. On the defensive side of the ball, the Beavers have a trio of key players in linebacker Connor Quinn who is third in the NSIC with 58 total tackles (9.7 per game), defensive back Scott Christensen who is 12th in the league with just under eight tackles a contest. While defensive linemen Matthew Shaver was selected as a "Player to Watch" in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Shaver has four tackles-for-loss this year. Bemidji coach Jeff Tesch is in his 18th season with the Beavers and holds a 115-75 career record.

Last Meeting
The Beavers held Northern to a season-low six points last season as BSU won 23-6 in Bemidji. Jacobson passed for 296 yards in the loss while safeties Logan Dosch and Jayson Geditz led the Wolves with 10 and 9 tackles, respectively.

The Series
Bemidji State leads the all-time series 18-17-1. The Beavers have the last 7-of-8 in the series. Northern's last victory came in 2011 in a 14-0 victory in Aberdeen.

Wolves Notes
Northern is 1-2 against BSU under coach Dosch. The Wolves will look to get back on the winning tract at home. Prior to losing back-to-back games in Aberdeen, Northern had won five-straight games at Swisher Field. The Wolves are 11-9 during the Dosch era at The Swish.

Jacobson currently ranks fifth in the NSIC and 28th nationally with 98 points responsible for this season. Jacobson has 15 total touchdowns in 2013 (11 passing, 4 rushing). Jacobson has found 14 different Wolves through the air this season. His most popular target is tight end Connor Doherty who ranks second in the league amongst tight ends with 300 yards receiving this year.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Wolves are stingy through the air as Northern ranks fifth in the league and 52nd in the country with a defensive passing efficiency of 117.52. Dosch, Geditz, Mike Tuch and Paul Woodward have been fixtures in the NSU defensive lineup. The quartet have started together in 24 of the last 25 games.

Gameday Promotions
Saturday will be Military Appreciation Day at Swisher Field. The South Dakota National Guard will have multiple promotions Saturday. The National Guard will have their own tailgate area set up where they will be giving away free hot dogs. At the tailgate, they will also have military personnel there to answer any questions fans may have. During the game, the National Guard will also be shooting t-shirts into the stands with a t-shirt gun.

Saturday will also be the Pink-Out game at NSU as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Northern State athletes and coaches will be dressed in pink attire and fans are encouraged to do the same in promotion of this cause.
