Aberdeen, S.D. - Taking the game to double ovetime, the Northern State University Soccer team fell to Bemidji State University in Saturday soccer play. The Beavers scored the game deciding goal three and half minutes into the second overtime period. NSU slides to 6-5 overall and 3-5 in the NSIC while the BSU improves to 8-3 on the year and 5-3 in the conference.
The two teams were evenly matched through regulation with a total of 12 shots a piece. The Beavers however were able to record six shots on goal to the Wolves three. Play intensified into overtime as the teams added four shots a piece; three of which on goal for the Beavers and two of which on goal for the Wolves. Northern was able to hold of a quick BSU attack only seconds into the first overtime period. A shot by Tiffany VanHaaften deflected off the crossbar giving the Beavers a second chance which resulted in an offside call by the officials.
Andrea Boisner and
Anna Bondy each notched two shots on goal in the one hour and three minute game.
Brittany Tietz was back in action for the Wolves in goal returning from an injury in their last home stand with Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State Mankato. Tietz added eight saves on the day while making a few key plays to prolong the game for Northern. Eight Wolves recorded a shot in the game, with Bobyye Pendelton leading the team at four.
NSU will be back in action from Jerde Field tomorrow as they take on the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston. Game time is set for 1 p.m. with a variety of activities planned for the day. Activities include: a 12:30 pre-game tailgate with FREE food, halftime game featuring the NSU soccer moms, Shoot out against Coach Berner contest and one dollar concessions throughout the day.
