Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University Swim team took on Minnesota State University Moorhead in their first dual meet of the 2013 season. The Dragons, of MSUM, have been difficult competition for the Wolves throughout the years; as they went 5-0 in conference meets last season. Northern fell in the dual with a score of 98-162 to Moorhead.

The Wolves missed three point scores on the meet in Samantha Bahr, Julia Upshaw and Lindsey Wilson due to injuries and sickness. The women scored in every event of the day to lead the team to a total of 98 points. NSU had an aggressive start with only six weeks of practice under their belt.

First place finishers for the Wolves included; Samantha Gunning, in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly and the 200 yard IM, Amanda Taylor in the 100 yard back and Katelyn Rhodes in the 500 yard free.

Rhodes finished just four seconds behind Gunning in the 200 yard butterfly with her first second place finish of the season. The breaststrokers for NSU finished 2-through-4 in the 100 yard race; with Eliza Jacob (2), Abby Ottenbacher (3) and Michyl Miller (4).

"This is a good start for our team early in the season.  We knew going into the meet that this would be our toughest dual of the season.", said Head Coach Elyce Kastigar, "This is the closest point spread between us and MSUM in our school history.  So we are making good progress and will compete against Moorhead again during the season and at our conference meet."

The Wolves will have about a month until they are back in the pool for competition as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Moringside College and Minnesota Morris in a two day double-dual November 1st and 2nd.  Northern will return home Novemeber 8th to compete against Concordia College from the Aberdeen YMCA beginning at 6 p.m..
