MANKATO, Minn. - Northern State overcame a 12-point halftime defecit to pull to within one of the 11th-ranked Minnesota State Mavericks Friday night, but could not find a way back into the lead, falling by a final tally of 83-76 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate men's basketball action.

NSU falls to 11-4 overall with the loss, which snapped a four-game win streak.  The Wolves are now 6-2 in league play.  With its fifth straight win, MSU improves to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the loop.

The Wolves began the night with a 7-2 lead, but the advantage was short-lived.  MSU regained the lead by the 12:51 mark and the two teams bandied the lead about until two straight treys by the Mavericks followed by a Jarvis Williams dunk put the Mavericks up for good with 7:49 left.

NSU freshman Skye Warwick countered with one of his four treys on the night to keep NSU within striking distance.  A 9-0 Mavericks run late in the half, however, gave Minnesota State some breathing room and a Williams three-pointer at the buzzer sent the Mavericks into the break riding the momentum and up 45-33.

The Wolves came out of the break and put on a 16-7 run that covered nearly ten minutes of playing time late in the half.  That run pulled NSU to within one at 67-66 with 3:26 left to play.

MSU's Zach Monaghan then took over scoring duties for the Mavericks, scoring 16 of his team's last 18 points, including 10-for-10 from the free throw line when NSU was forced to foul to stop the clock.

NSU put four players in double figures, led by senior Collin Pryor's 18.  Pryor was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line and has now hit 19 straight free throws in 2013.  Senior Dustin Tetzlaff added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Warwick chipped in 12 points on his four treys and sophomore Michael Emge had 10.

Monaghan finished with 29 for the Mavericks, while Zach Romashko added 15 off the bench.  Williams put up 13 points and seven boards.

The Wolves will be back at it tomorrow night, taking on Concordia-St. Paul in another key NSIC South Division battle.  Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
