MOORHEAD, MINN. – A double-double from senior Mikayla Barondeau was not enough to overcome a 21 point deficit as the Minnesota State University of Moorhead Dragons (10-9, 7-8 NSIC) defeated the Northern State Wolves (12-10, 7-9 NSIC) 58-47 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Friday evening in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Northern State jumped out in the early going to a 10-4 lead before the Dragons took at one point lead at the 7:05 mark in the half.

The Dragons built a lead as many as nine points with 1:50 left in the half. The Wolves would fight back and cut the deficit to the halftime score of 26-21.

Coming out of the half, the Dragons opened up a 35-21 lead in the first three and a half minutes of action.

Mikayla Barondeau finally got the Wolves on the second half scoreboard at the 16 minute mark, hitting an 18 foot jump shot that bounced in and out, then back in again.

However the Dragons would continue to put the clamps on. The Wolves would get to within 11 points of the lead with 13:45 remaining in the game.

The Dragons opened up a lead of as many as 21 points with 9:31 remaining in the game.

The Wolves would make a dent into the lead, starting with Emily Becken making two free throws, her first and only points in the game, which would lead to the final 58-47 score.

The Wolves were led by Mikayla Barondeau with 11 points, leaving her just nine points shy from the coveted 1,000 career point club, while also snagging 10 rebounds.

The Wolves were out-rebounded by the Dragons 36-34, just the third time on the season the Wolves have been out-rebounded and the second to the Dragons.
The Wolves hit the road for a 4 p.m. contest in Crookston, Minnesota, taking on the Golden Eagles for the second time this season. In the first meeting, the Wolves took a 77-60 victory.
