MINOT, N.D. –
Northern State claimed two open weight classes and gave up one of their own, but dropped just one of the seven remaining contested matches on Wednesday to take a 38-9 victory over the host Minot State Beavers.

With the non-conference win, NSU moves to 7-7 in dual meets.

The Wolves started and ended the night with wins by fall.  Blake Lundgren kicked off the night with a quick pin at 165 pounds.  Senior Donnie Bowden followed with a major decision that vaulted the Wolves out to a 10-0 lead.

The Beavers got on the board at 184 pounds, picking up a forfeit win that made it 10-6.  That, however, would be as close as they got.  The Wolves reeled off four straight wins, including two open weights at 285 and 133 pounds.  Those, combined with a Baker Haar major decision and an Anthony Bruno win, stretched the Wolves' lead to 29-6 and effectively sealed the team win.

Minot State broke the NSU streak and got back on the board with an overtime win at 141 pounds.  Tyler Frost picked up two late stalling calls against his opponent to force the match into overtime, but was unable to avoid the takedown in the sudden-death overtime period.

Gavin Larsen and Neil Sell capped the evening for the Wolves, Larson with a 3-0 shutout at 149 pounds and Sell with a win by fall in 2:08 to make the final score 38-9.

NSU closes out the dual portion of the 2011-12 season tomorrow, taking on the University of Mary in an NSIC dual.  Action on the mat begins at 7 p.m. in Bismarck.
