ABERDEEN, S.D. -
The Mayville State Comets drained five three-pointers in the first half to keep themselves within striking distance, but had no answer for the Northern State Wolves in the second half, as NSU pulled steadily away en-route to a 76-50 win over the Comets Saturday night in non-conference men's basketball action.

NSU runs its overall record to 9-3 with the win.  The contest was counted as an exhibition game for Mayville State.

After allowing the Comets to stay close in the first half, the Wolves turned the tables in the final 25 minutes of play, going 6-for-8 from 3-point range and recording six of their ten blocks on the night in the second half to help hold MSU to just 29.4 percent shooting on the night.

The Wolves closed the first half on a 9-2 run and opened the second on a 6-2 spurt to open up a 42-31 lead.  Sparked by a pair of Skye Warwick treys and another from Mack Arvidson, the Wolves used another 15-0 run in the middle of the second stanza to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore forward Seth Bachand had six of NSU's ten blocks on the night, closing out his effort with nine points, nine rebounds and six rejections in 19 minutes.  Bachand, along with forwards Collin Pryor and Trent Zomer, saw increased minutes after Dustin Tetzlaff left the game in the first half with an injury.

Pryor also gave the Wolves a boost in the second half, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolves, leading four players in double figures.  Skye Warwick drilled 3-of-6 treys to finish with 13, while Zomer added 14, both coming off the bench for their performances.

Mayville State was held to just 21 points in the second half, going 9-for-36 in the second half.

Tuesday's contest closed out the 2012 portion of the schedule for NSU.  The Wolves return to Wachs Arena to open 2013, hosting Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State on Jan. 4-5 to resume Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
