Box Score ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Northern State men's basketball program could not overcome a slow start to the first half, shooting just 22.2 percent from the floor and going 0-for-9 from long range in the opening stanza, as the Wolves fell to North Carolina-Pembroke 73-58 Friday morning in the 2012-13 season opener at the Disney Tip-off Classic.

The Wolves rallied in the second half, matching the Braves bucket for bucket in the final 20 minutes, but were unable to dig their way out of the early deficit.

NSU scored the season's first basket on a back-door Jared Hannigan lay-up, but the Braves rattled off the next 11 points and took control early.  The Wolves cut it to an 11-8 lead with 10:27 left, but the Braves would not relinquish the lead, stretching their advantage to as many as 15 before heading into the break leading 31-17.

NSU freshman Mack Arvidson led the Wolves in a much more potent offensive attack in the second half, scoring 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second stanza.  Arvidson came off the bench to go 4-for-5 from long range in his collegiate debut.  The Wolves cut the Braves lead to 13 on three occasions in the second half, but could not crack the Braves' double-digit cushion.

Senior Collin Pryor finished with 12 points for the Wolves, while Mitch White and Seth Bachand had seven and six points, respectively.  Trent Zomer had six boards to lead the Wolves on the glass, while White and Zomer had four assists apiece.

The Wolves now turn their attention to Grand Canyon, their next opponent in the three-day Disney Classic.  Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. Pacific, 10:30 p.m. Central in the Anaheim Convention Center.  GCU, located in Pheonix, Ariz., is receiving votes in the preseason NABC Top 25 poll.
