Sarah Hintz combined for 21 points as part of a balanced NSU offensive attack to lead the Wolves to a 69-58 non-conference win over Nebraska-Kearney Friday afternoon. The contest was the first of two games against regional opponents at the Concordia-St. Paul/Radisson-Roseville Thanksgiving Classic.
NSU improves to 3-0 overall with the victory. The Lopers slip to 2-3 with Friday's loss.
Mutchler and Hintz were a combined 9-for-14 from the field in the effort. Hintz scored eight of her ten total points in the first half and finished the night with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Mutchler was 3-for-5 from the free throw line and finished with 11 total points.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Wolves took the lead for good on an
Alison Kusler three-pointer with 5:12 left in the half. NSU stretched the lead to as many as eight in the remaining five minutes, and played from the front the entire second period, never letting the Lopers get closer than nine.
Mutchler matched Hintz's first half effort with eight second-half points. Hintz had seven rebounds in the second stanza.
UNK was led by Shelby Zimmerman's 13 points and six rebounds on the day.
NSU remains in St. Paul to take on William Penn on Saturday to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule. The Wolves begin NSIC play next Saturday at home against MSU Moorhead.
