10/3/2012 5:05:00 PM

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves, riding a two-game win streak and coming off a big road win last week, return to Swisher Field this Saturday to face Minot State in the team's annual Gypsy Day contest.  Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. as NSU goes for its third in a row.

Setting the Stage:
• Northern State (2-3) picked up its second straight win last weekend, opening NSIC North Division play with a big 45-7 win over MSU Moorhead.  The Wolves hope to keep momentum going this weekend and are looking for their third straight victory in Saturday's Gypsy Day meeting with NSIC newcomer Minot State.

Last Meeting:
• This will be the first meeting between the two teams in more than a decade.  NSU and Minot State have not met since the 1998 season when the Wolves claimed a 43-6 victory over the Beavers in Aberdeen.

About the Beavers:
• Minot State picked up its first win of the season and first as a full-fledged member of the NSIC last week, a 32-21 win over U-Mary in Minot.  The Beavers scored 22 fourth-quarter points to come from behind for the win.
• MISU has just one rushing touchdown in five games, and averages just 65.6 yards per game on the ground.
• The Beavers were tabbed to the 14th slot in the Preseason NSIC Coaches Poll and the sixth spot in the NSIC North.

Last Week:
• NSU won its second straight game in record-setting fashion last week in the Wolves' 45-7 win over MSU Moorhead.  The Wolves held MSUM to a school-record -40 yards rushing, while NSU quarterback Jared Jacobson threw for a career-high 280 yards and three touchdowns in the win.  The NSU defense recorded eight sacks, the most in a single game since at least 1998.
• In a shake-up week across the league, Minot State charted its first win with a 32-21 victory over U-Mary.

The series:
• In a series that dates back to 1932, NSU holds a slim 7-6-1 edge in 14 all-time meetings.  The Wolves have won the last two meetings, the last coming back in 1998.  This will be the first conference meeting between the two teams.

Time & Temp:
• Saturday's forecast calls for clear skies with highs in the 50s.  Winds should be fairly calm at less than 5 mph.

About the NSIC:
• The NSIC has expanded once more in 2012 with the addition of Sioux Falls and Minot State as full-fledged members in the now 16-team league.  The institutions are the fifth and sixth additional members since the league expanded from 10 to 14 in 2008.
