ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State soccer team scored with under a minute to play in the first half and created a couple of nice scoring opportunities in the second, but could not come up with the elusive game-winner on Sunday, battling the visiting St. Cloud State Huskies to a 1-1 draw in a physical Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest.
NSU junior
Tia Lopez tallied the goal for the Wolves, picking up the rebound on a blocked
Rachel Goslinga shot and finding the back of the net with just 37 seconds remaining in the half. The goal was the first of the season for Lopez, while Goslinga's assist was her third.
The Wolves just missed a chance at an insurance goal in the 64th minute, as
Alyssa Wilde fired off two short-range shots. The first rebounded back off SCSU goal tender Kenzie Hanzlik and back to Wilde's feet, but her second shot was blocked. NSU was then whistled for offsides, ending the goal-scoring opportunity.
The Huskies then countered with a goal in the 69th minute to tie the game at 1-apiece. Both squads managed just one shot apiece for the remainder of regulation sending the game into extra minutes. NSU goalkeeper
Shaina Stein made two saves in the second overtime, while Hanzlik had one, keeping the final score 1-1.
NSU moves to 3-10-3 on the season and 2-8-3 in NSIC play. The Huskies go to 8-6-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the loop.
The Wolves will face U-Mary next Friday on the road before returning to close out the season at home against Minot State on Sunday. Both contests begin a 1 p.m.
