ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves return to Swisher Field this weekend to host St. Cloud State in another key NSIC North Division Match-up. Kick-off for the game, which is also the annual Shrine Game, is set for 2:30 p.m.
Setting the Stage:
• Northern State saw its three game win streak snapped last week, but returns home looking to start a new streak this week. The Wolves play host to St. Cloud State (5-2 overall, 3-0 North) in a Week 8 match-up.
• For the third straight week, NSU will face an opponent coming off a win over U-Mary.
Last Meeting:
• The 17th ranked St. Cloud State Huskies engineered a two minute, 44-second drive to score a late second-quarter touchdown, then took the ball on the opening drive of the second half to score a second touchdown to go up by by three scores and dash the Northern State hopes of pulling off the upset on the road in the 2011 meeting between the two teams. NSU scored its second touchdwon with two minutes left in the game, but it was too little, too late as the Huskies claimed the 27-14 win.
About the Huskies:
• St. Cloud State opened the season 1-2 with losses to Sioux Falls and Minnesota State, but have since reeled off four straight victories, including a 51-49 win over then undefeated and second-ranked Minnesota-Duluth at home.
• The Huskies are ranked 24th in the d2football.com poll, and received one vote in the AFCA poll.
• SCSU is averaging 47.3 points per game in their last three games after scoring just 27.25 points per game in the first four weeks of the season.
• The Huskies are 3-0 on the road.
Last Week:
• NSU suffered its first loss in a month last week in a first-half heavy battle on the road. The Wolves fell 23-6 to Bemidji State with all but two team safety points scored in the first half. NSU was held to just one first quarter touchdown despite sophomore quarterback
Jared Jacobson's 296 yard passing effort.
• The Huskies claimed a 55-13 win over U-Mary for their fourth straight win. Junior running back Michael Walker ran for three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 25, 80 and 5 yards in the win.
The series:
• The Huskies lead the overall series 12-1.
Time & Temp:
• Saturday's forecast calls for an end to the strong winds that have plagued NESD for much of the week. Temperatures should climb to the upper 60s with winds out of the south at 5-15 mph.
About the NSIC:
• The NSIC has expanded once more in 2012 with the addition of Sioux Falls and Minot State as full-fledged members in the now 16-team league. The institutions are the fifth and sixth additional members since the league expanded from 10 to 14 in 2008.
