ABERDEEN, S.D. – The third-ranked Upper Iowa Peacocks did not rest any of their five nationally ranked wrestlers on Saturday and the result was a 41-4 victory by the Peacocks in the Wolves' second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling dual – and second against a top three team in the nation – in as many days.
Upper Iowa won eight of the nine contested matches on the night with the lone NSU win coming in the form of a 10-1 major decision from NSU's second-ranked
Matt Meuleners in the heavyweight bout. That win broke what had been a 16-0 lead by the Peacocks, having started with a pin at 165 pounds, followed by two decisions and a major at 197.
Following Meuleners' win, the Wolves'
Anthony Bruno took an early lead over UIU's top-ranked Kyle Pedretti at 125 pounds before Petretti turned on the jets late in the first period and rallied for the 10-4 win.
The Peacocks followed with a forfeit win at 133 pounds, followed by two pins and a second major decision to close out the dual.
The loss drops the Wolves to 0-2 in conference duals and 3-5 overall. Upper Iowa moves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league action. The Peacocks and top-ranked St. Cloud State will both face the University of Mary on Sunday.
NSU is off until Jan. 27 when the team is slated to take on Southwest Minnesota State in another NSIC dual on Jan. 27. That match-up is set for 7 p.m. in Marshall, Minn.
