NSU set to face No. 17 St. Cloud State in NSIC North match-up

9/29/2011 11:40:00 AM

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Wolves look to usher in a new month after closing out the first month of the season with a 37-10 home loss to the Wayne State Wildcats last weekend.  That loss, the third straight for the Wolves, drops NSU to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play, and the road back to the win column does not get any easier this week.  The Wolves must re-take to the road to face the 17th ranked St. Cloud State Huskies.

Last Meeting: St. Cloud State turned two straight Northern State fumbles into touchdowns, scoring three times in the final two minutes of the first quarter en-route to a 42-10 victory over the Wolves last season in Aberdeen.  SCSU quarterback Phillip Klaphake and receivers Fred Williams hooked up for nine passes/receptions for 170 yards and four touchdowns.

About St. Cloud State: The Huskies were among the nation's top ten teams until a Week 3 stunning 16-29 loss to Winona State dropped them to 18th in the nation.  With last week's 45-24 win over U-Mary, the Huskies climbed back up one spot and sit at No. 17 in this week's Top-25 snapshot.  SCSU relies on returning quarterback Phillip Klaphake, who has thrown for four touchdowns and rushed for another four.

Head Coach Scott Underwood: In three seasons at the helm of the Husky football program, Underwood has compiled a 24-11 overall record, collecting the most wins of any Husky football coach in the first three years of their coaching tenure.  In 2010, Underwood guided the Huskies to their third NCAA Division II football playoff appearance and St. Cloud State advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the second time in school history.

Series History: St. Cloud State holds a 12-1 edge in the all-time series.  NSU's lone win came in a 14-6 victory in 1947.
