Box Score
Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State (3-2-0, 0-0-0 NSIC) soccer team got back into the win column on Sunday, while giving head coach
Steve Kehm his 150th win of his career, against Viterbo University (3-4-0). The Wolves recorded their second shutout on the season in the 2-0 victory.
Senior midfielder
Ashley Elliott scored the first goal of the match just seven minutes in. Elliott intercepted a pass around the midfield circle and dribbled to about 25 yards out, where she was able to secure the shot. Viterbo goalkeeper, Stephanie Stacey, got her fingers on the ball but had it bounce off the cross bar into the net. That is Elliott's third goal on the season.
With just under two minutes to go in the first half, junior
Rachel Goslinga stole the ball from the Viterbo defense, where she was able to dribble in and beat the goalkeeper for her fifth goal on the season.
That is all the Wolves would need to hold off a pesky Viterbo team that were able to get ten shots off in the match and six of those on goal. The Wolves did outshoot the V-Hawks with 15 shots of their own. The Wolves had six shots land on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Shaina Stein recorded her first career shutout in the match, stopping all six shots that landed upon her.
Steve Kehm now has 150 wins in his career with just 90 losses and 31 ties in his 14 years at Northern.
The Wolves return home on Saturday, Sept. 17 as they take on the Vikings of Augustana College at 1 p.m. at Jerde Field in their first conference match of the season.
