St. Cloud State blanks Northern State in NSIC dual

RESULTS

ST. CLOUD, Minn.-
The nation's third best wrestling team, St. Cloud State made quick work of Northern State by holding the Wolves scoreless in tonight's 39-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate dual in St. Cloud.
 
St. Cloud State improves to 16-2 and 3-1 in NSIC action while Northern State moves to 3-7-1, 0-4 in the NSIC.
 
Putting up the toughest fight of the night was No. 2 Matt Mueleners at 285 who took on No. 1 in the nation, Jake Kahnke. Both men sat scoreless after the first period before Muelners earned a reversal in the second period to go up, 2-0. Kahnke countered with his own reversal to tie the score, but Muelners notched an escape before the period ended to lead, 3-2.
 
Kahnke came out firing in the third period to earn an escape tying the match. With 28 seconds left Kahnke wrestled for the first takedown of match to put him up, 5-3. Mueleners escaped with ten seconds remaining, but it was not enough to defeat the Husky.
 
The Huskies notched five decisions on the night as well as two major decisions, one fall and a forfeit in their win.
 
NSU will travel to Minnesota Moorhead to take on the Dragons Thursday. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
