ABERDEEN, S.D. –
Twelfth-ranked (NAIA) Dickinson State University used a six-point forfeit at 125 and five straight victories from 165 pounds through the 197 pound bout to overcome two Northern State pins and sneak out a 21-19 victory over the Wolves Thursday night in non-conference wrestling dual action.

The loss, NSU's fifth straight dual setback, drops the Wolves to 3-6-1 overall.  The road doesn't get any easier, however, as they resume Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action tomorrow, facing off against third-ranked St. Cloud State on the road.

The Wolves spotted the DSU Blue Hawks six points to start the night, but rebounded quickly with a 12-4 major decision from freshman Ian Muirhead at 133 pounds.  Junior Benton Crow followed with a pin at 141 pounds to put the Wolves up 10-6.

The two teams then traded decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, with freshman Blake Lundgren picking up the win at 157 pounds to snap a five bout skid.  DSU, however, then went on a five match streak to turn a 13-9 deficit into a 21-13 advantage.

Steven Urquizo picked up a huge victory for the Blue Hawks at 184 pounds.  The tenth-rated wrestler in the NAIA ranks, Urquizo scored a late reversal on NSU's Cale Cornemann.  The move, which came with less than a minute left in the third period, broke a 4-4 stalemate and put Urquizo up 6-4.  Cornemann escaped ten seconds later, but was unable to score a late takedown to secure the win, surrendering his first match in his last eight outings.

Still leading by just five and with two bouts left, the Blue Hawks secured the team victory in the 197-pound match after junior George Hargrove decisioned NSU's Brent Fosheim 5-2.  Fosheim scored a pair of escapes in the third period and had several good shots at the edge of the mat throughout the match, but couldn't finish out any of them for takedown points.

NSU heavyweight Matt Meuleners stemmed the Blue Hawk tide in the final match of the night, pinning DSU's Cody Jamgaard in 4:25 to close out the night.  Meuleners, ranked second in the nation at that weight, was leading the bout 11-0 at the time of the pin.

Thursday's go-round was a re-match of a Dec. 1 meeting between the two teams.  DSU also took that victory by a 23-15 count, winning four of the final five bouts.

The Wolves have six duals left on the 2010-11 slate before the NCAA Regional Championships next month.  The circuit continues at SCSU tomorrow night starting at 7 p.m.
