ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The visiting University of Mary Marauders used a pair of 6-point victories to overcome two Northern State major decisions and split the remainder of the decisions to earn a 21-17 victory over the Wolves Tuesday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling action.

The loss leaves the Wolves winless in NSIC action, while U-Mary picked up its first conference dual win of the season.  NSU has one dual meet left before heading to the super region championships on Sunday, Feb. 27.

The Wolves opened with an open weight at 125 pounds, spotting the Marauders six points to start the night.  NSU countered with a major decision from Ian Muirhead at 133 pounds and pulled briefly into the lead with Benton Crow's 3-2 win at 141 pounds.

U-Mary, however, claimed victories at 149 and 157 pounds to retake control of the match.  The Marauders then took a commanding lead when NSU's Neil Sell was called for an unprotected slam to the mat in the 165-pound match.  U-Mary's Taylor Nagel was injured during the move and unable to continue with the match, thus earning the win by disqualification.

Still not out of contention but needing wins in all four remaining matches, the Wolves could muster only three wins out of the four, the final of which was a 10-0 major decision win by Matt Meuleners in the heavyweight bout.  U-Mary, however escaped with a 2-1 victory tiebreaker victory at 184 pounds to seal the win.

NSU senior Brent Fosheim recovered from an early knee injury at 197 pounds to take the tiebreaker win in that bout, but it wasn't enough for a full NSU recovery.
