ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State (3-6, 2-6 NSIC) hits the road for one last road trip in 2011 to take on MSU Moorhead in the wake of the Wolves' 14-0 stunner over Bemidji State last weekend. NSU will be going for its first four-win season since 2007, while the Dragons of MSU Moorhead (2-7, 1-7 NSIC) will try to avoid its third straight loss at the hands of NSU.
Last Meeting: MSU Moorhead scored the first points of the day on a first-quarter touchdown, but the Wolves answered with 16 unanswered points and sealed their second victory of the season with a late fourth-quarter interception return to down the visiting Dragons by a 16-7 tally in last season's meeting. The Dragons easily outdistanced the Wolves in terms of total offense, racking up 359 yards on the day to just 290 for the Wolves, but threw three costly interceptions – all in the second half – that thwarted their offensive efforts.
About MSU Moorhead: One of the few 2011 opponents to be unranked and not receiving votes in either national poll, the Dragons were picked to finish 13th in the NSIC Preseason Poll. The Dragons own wins over Robert Morris (non-conf.) and Minnesota, Crookston, but have dropped their last five heading into the weekend match-up. Saturday will also mark the final home game for the Dragons.
Head Coach Steve Laqua: Laqua is in his first season at the helm of the Dragons, taking over the program after spending four seasons as the head coach at Fargo Shanley HS. Prior to that, he was an assistant at North Dakota State where he was the running backs, tight ends and punt team coach.
Series History: NSU owns a slim 26-21-1 edge in the series and has won three of the last four meetings.
