Wolves Drop Huskies in 3 Sets

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State volleyball (13-14, 8-12 NSIC) ended their season on a high note, as the Wolves defeated the Huskies of St. Cloud State (6-22, 2-18 NSIC) in straight sets on Saturday evening.

In the first set, the Huskies jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Wolves got on the scoreboard with a kill from All-NSIC performer, Paula Martins.

The Wolves would continue to chip away and trade points with the visitors before knotting the set at seven apiece and finally taking the lead at 8-7, off of attack errors from the Huskies.

The Wolves would win the first set 25-17.

The second set saw the Wolves jump out to a 4-0 start before the Huskies would start a comeback of their own. With Ellie Dietzen serving for SCSU, the huskies scored five straight points to take a 9-6 lead.

The Wolves would answer, starting with two straight kills from senior Claire Kopfman. Two more attack errors from the Huskies, the Wolves were back in the lead 10-9.

Throughout the entire set, the two teams would continue trading points as the Wolves would eventually take a 26-24 victory.

In the third and final set, the two teams once again would trade points before sophomore Sami Nygaard took over serving duties and helped the Wolves score 5 straight points for a 17-10 lead.

The Wolves would run-off with the victory in a 25-16 margin. Senior Amber Bloom finished off her career, and the Wolves season, with a kill coming off the set from freshman Morgan Richardson.

Kopfman had nine kills on 19 attempts, good for a .421 percentage. Senior Kaili Aiono lead the Wolves with 12 kills, while Martins chipped in nine.

Richardson had 38 assists for the Wolves in the three sets.

This evenings match concluded the careers of four seniors, Aiono, Bloom, Kopfman, and Fesi Vaisigano, who exhausted their NCAA eligibility.
