BISMARCK, N.D. – Led by a dozen kills and a blistering .647 attacking percentage from senior
Claire Kopfmann and just 11 attacking errors as a team, the Northern State University Wolves downed the University of Mary in straight sets (25-22, 25-28, 25-16) on Tuesday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball action.
Tuesday's meeting was the second straight for the two squads, who also faced off on Saturday night. NSU claimed that meeting in five sets, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to earn the win.
The Wolves, now winners of five of their last six matches, improved to 11-8 overall and an even 6-6 in conference play. U-Mary slipped to 2-19 overall and 1-11 in the loop.
Kopfmann's effort capped an efficient NSU attack, as all five players at the net finished with six or more kills. Setter
Morgan Richardson added the final two kills while dishing out 35 assists and tallying 10 digs. An equally well-balanced defensive effort, combined with 19 Marauder attacking errors helped seal the NSU victory.
Allison Opp again led the Marauders offensively with her 13 kills, followed by Julie Paradine's nine, but no other U-Mary player tallied more than four kills on the night despite a combined 60 attempts.
NSU returns home to face No. 10 Wayne State on Friday and an unranked Augustana College team on Saturday. Friday's action kicks off at 7 p.m., while first serve on Saturday is set for 3 p.m. in Wachs Arena.
