Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves soccer team (4-10, 1-8 NSIC) fell victim to the Warriors of Winona State (10-2-1, 8-0-0 NSIC), the first place team in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Warriors were able to score a goal in each half in the 2-0 victory and held strong on defense showing why they are the third ranked team in the Central Region.

The Wolves, who have been shut out in six of their last seven contests, set out to get the first goal on the board. Senior Ashley Elliott took the first shot of the game seven minutes into the match that sailed high. Junior Rachel Goslinga received a pass at the corner of the 18-yard box, made a spin move on the Warrior defender, and took the Wolves second shot of the day, the first of which Warriors goalkeeper Ann Bellpedio would save.

The momentum would not last long as the Warriors sent a pass intended for the Warriors front line, which was intercepted by Wolves goalkeeper Shaina Stein but she was unable to hold onto the ball and went out for a corner kick.

On the ensuing corner kick, the Warriors sent a ball which was headed out by one of the Wolves defenders and picked up by Beck McCoy of Winona who scored the first goal of the game at the 14:24 mark.

The half would end with that 1-0 edge in favor of the Warriors. Winona State also had the edge in shots 8-4.

The second half also got off to a quick start when Winona State forward Melissa Sellier found an open Sarah Colleran slashing through the defense. Colleran was able to lift the ball over a sliding Kourtney Woracek, who had been moved into goal, to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors would end the day with 15 total shots with seven of which landing on goal. The Wolves had ten shots, with three landing on goal.

The Wolves were lead in shots by Rachel Goslinga and Anna Woerle who each had three shots with one landing on goal. Ashley Elliott had two shots and had the third shot which landed on goal for the Wolves.

The Warriors goalkeeper Ann Bellpedio had two saves on the day, to go along with a team save. Woracek had had four saves for the Wolves in her debut at the goalkeeper position.

The Wolves return to action on Sunday to face Upper Iowa University in a 1 p.m. matinee at Jerde Field in Aberdeen.
