WINONA, Minn. – A career high 15 points from
Brittany Euerle was not enough for Northern State who was defeated by Winona State tonight in a 65-56 decision in Northern Sun Intercollegiate action.
NSU moves to 7-5 (4-4 NSIC), while WSU improves to 10-1 (6-1 NSIC).
The Warriors jumped out to a quick start hitting two quick baskets before
Krista Rabenberg hit a jumper for the Wolves. The two teams flip-flopped points for most of the first half with WSU extended the lead to as much as six at point.
With three minutes left in the half, Northern capitalized on a pair of free throws from Rabenberg and a three point play by
Emily Becken to pull the Wolves within one point of the Warriors.
With 30 seconds left in the half, Northern took their first lead of the game when Becken slashed to the basket for two.
Brittany Euerle led Northern to start the second half rallying off seven straight points before Winona State answered back.
Northern held the Warriors to a ten point deficit for most of the half before a Winona State run cut the lead to six. The Wolves answered the run with a pair of baskets from Kayla Barondeau and
Alison Kusler to extend the lead to 11.
With the score at 47-36, Winona began a six-point run to cut Northern's lead to three at 47-44. The Warriors then ran away with the score to finish with 65 to the Wolves' 56.
Following Euerle in scoring for the Wolves was Barondeau with 11 points and four rebounds. Becken and Rabenberg each contributed seven points while
Jenna Higgins pulled down six boards and Euerle grabbed five.
Northern State will be in action again on Saturday when they travel north to take on Minnesota Crookson at 2 p.m.
