ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The Northern State University big men won the final three matches of the night in either big or exciting fashion and senior Corbin Surat picked up a forfeit victory at 125 pounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome six straight Chadron State College victories in the middle weight brackets as the Eagles took home a 22-17 victory over the Wolves Saturday night in non-conference wrestling action.

NSU slipped to 3-5-1 in duals with the loss and 0-2 at home.  Chadron State moved to 4-7 overall.

Following Surat's win to kick off the night, the Eagles responded with a pair of decisions at 133 and 141 pounds to tie things up.  CSC's Phillip Bullington then earned a quick 14-second pin at 149 pounds to give the Eagles a six-point cushion in the team standings.

After a couple of close decisions at 157 and 165 pounds, CSC's Trent Zemple earned a 12-2 major decision at 174 pounds that put the Wolves in a 22-6 hole before they could turn the tide.

Senior Cale Cornemann was finally able to stem the Eagle tide in the 184-pound match.  The Yankton, S.D. native and fourth-ranked wrestler in the nation, Cornemann used a flurry of action in all three periods to pick up a technical fall over CSC's Joe Hass with less than a minute remaining in the bout.

Fellow senior Brent Fosheim gave the Wolves a thrilling come-from-behind win in the 197 pound match.  Fosheim found himself down by a 4-2 count heading into the final period, but earned a quick escape after choosing the bottom position to start the round.  He then picked up a penalty point to tie the match at 4-all after CSC's Chris Leak was called for fleeing the mat and secured the victory with a takedown with just nine seconds remaining on the clock.

In the heavyweight match, NSU sophomore Matt Meuleners needed extra rounds to get past Chadron's Sam Udell.  Each wrestler earned an escape point in regulation, but neither could secure any takedown points either in regulation or the sudden victory overtime period, sending the match into the 30-second tiebreaker periods.

Meuleners chose to start the first round in the bottom position, needed just eight seconds to turn a reversal to go up by two points.  Udell managed to escape just three seconds later, but Meuleners rode out the second tie-breaker period to claim the 3-2 win.

The Wolves are back on the mat on Feb. 3 for another home dual, hosting Dickinson State in their final non-conference match-up of the season.  Action starts at 7 p.m. in Wachs Arena.
