Box Score
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University senior Maggie Fedor narrowly missed a first-half hat trick and finished with two goals and an assist, while junior Kaylee McDonald added two more scores and goal tenders Dee Wood and Jessica Hernandez combined for NSU's second shutout of the season on Tuesday in NSU's 5-0 win over Jamestown College.
The win is the first of the season for the Wolves, now 1-1-1 overall with the non-conference victory. The five goals scored were also the most by the Wolves since a Sept. 13 8-0 victory over Mount Marty during the 2008 season.
Jamestown fell to 0-5-0 on the year.
The Wolves, who did not score an offensive goal in either of the first two matches of the season, got the scoring going in the 16th minute of play on Fedor's first strike. Freshman Mallory Van Hout played a free kick into the box where it ricocheted off the Jimmie goalkeeper and straight to Fedor's feet for the easy goal.
McDonald found the net just eight minutes later when she stole the ball from the Jimmie defense and went straight to goal for the 5-yard goal.
Fedor picked up her second goal of the half in the 40th minute of play when she picked up a long cross from the right side off the foot of sophomore Liz Royce and slipped it in from the far post. The senior captain had a chance at completing the hat trick just before the end of the half, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar, leaving the score at 3-0 heading into the break.
NSU continued the offensive pressure in the second half, firing off 24 of the team's 43 total shots of the game in the second stanza. McDonald found the net again in the 58th minute off a Fedor assist, while freshman Katie Kippes notched an unassisted goal in the 70th minute to round out the scoring.
All 13 position players who saw time on the field managed at least one shot on the night, led by Fedor's seven. The Wolves also registered 11 corner kicks on the night.
NSU continues its non-conference slate on Saturday when they take on NCAA Central Region opponent Nebraska-Kearney. Game time is set for 2 p.m. for Saturday's match, the first of four straight road games for the Wolves.
