ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The Northern State University soccer squad opened the 2010 campaign Friday night with their annual late-night soccer bash and Cancer Awareness match and ended the night with a scoreless double-overtime draw against the Minot State University Beavers.

The defensive battle featured fewer than 20 shots per team, while each team's respective goalkeeper was perfect in the net despite the 11 p.m. start time.

NSU fired off 12 shots, four of which were on goal, while the visiting Beavers managed 16 shots, seven on goal.  Senior Dee Wood made seven saves, however, while MSU netminder Marie Torres put a stop to all four shots on goal she faced on the night.

NSU senior Kirsten Saunders took three shots for the Wolves, two of which were on goal.  Four MSU players had three shots apiece to pace the Beavers.

The Wolves now face NCAA Central Region opponent University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday in a neutral site match in Marshall, Minn. before returning home on Tuesday to face Jamestown in another non-conference match at Jerde Field.
