SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Northern State University Wolves' second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game of the season ended almost exactly the same as their first. Less than 24 hours removed from a 2-2 draw which went into double overtime at Wayne State College, the Wolves played to a 1-1 double overtime draw at Augustana College on Sunday.
This was Northern's third game of the season to go to double overtime, all of which ended in ties. The Wolves move to 2-2-3 on the season and 0-0-2 in NSIC play. The Vikings, coming off of a win in their conference opener over the University of Mary on Saturday, moved to 2-3-3 and 1-0-1 in the NSIC.
NSU got on the board early when junior midfielder Haley Burns scored her second goal of the season off the Maggie Fedor pass in the 10th minute. The Wolves played strong defense for the whole game as the only Viking goal came off of a Katie Shandri penalty kick in the 74th minute.
After being out-shot by AC 9-16 in regulation, the Wolves' offense went on the attack in overtime, taking seven shots versus only two by the Vikings. The Wolves were hurt by the 14 fouls in the game.
NSU returns to Aberdeen next weekend looking to pick up their first conference win in Friday's game against the 1-3 Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs.
