YANKTON, S.D. – Freshman forward Tia Lopez scored her first career goals and became the third NSU player to record a multiple-goal effort this season as the Northern State University Wolves cruised to a 5-0 blanking of Mount Marty College Sunday afternoon in non-conference soccer action.
Lopez scored two first half goals, the second coming less than a minute before the break off a corner kick, and added an assist on fellow freshman Mallory Van Hout's first career goal in the 76th minute of play. Junior Haley Burns notched the game-winner just 20 minutes into the game, while senior Maggie Fedor assisted on Lopez's first goal then found the back of the net for one of her own in the second half.
Senior Kirsten Saunders had two assists, while freshman Katie Kippes had one.
The Wolves remain on the road next weekend to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at Wayne State on Friday and Augustana on Saturday. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. starts.
