2010 NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament Bracket

ABERDEEN, S.D. -  They only got five points from their bench, and they wouldn't even need that much.

 

Four Northern State starters scored over 12 points Saturday and by themselves outscored the visiting Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs by the same amount in earning a 67-50 NSIC victory Saturday at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D.

 

In what was essentially a play-in game to determine the final two seeds of the 2010 NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament the Northern State Wolves put the clamps down on the Mustangs and held all of their players under double figures in scoring on the evening

 

With the win the Wolves jumped into the seventh seed and will face their in-state rival, Augustana College - the no. 2 seed in the tournament, on Wednesday in Sioux Falls, S.D.  The Vikings swept the Wolves in regular season action this season, winning in both Sioux Falls and Aberdeen in 2009-2010.

 

The Wolves, playing inspired basketball, jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead 43-23 and never looked back in cruising to the convincing victory.

 

Mikayla Barondeau led all scorers with 19 points, including 16 in the first half.  She finished her night going 6-9 from the field and added six rebounds and two assists.

 

Jodi Reinschmidt followed right after with 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in recording her sixth double-double of the season.  She finished her night with a 6-11 night from the floor and added four assists, a block, and a steal in 35 minutes on the court.

 

Senior Lennea Mueller, playing her final home game on Don Meyer Court, finished with 13 points and four assists on 5-7 shooting from the floor.

 

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
