Marauder Heroics in Waning Seconds Hold Off Wolves

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to their NSIC travel partner Saturday, when the University of Mary handed the Wolves their 11th loss of the season bya 55-54 score.  The University of Mary's Sonny Schulz made the winning basket with 25 seconds remaining in the game.  The Wolves were able to get off two shots in the remaining seconds, but none would fall as the time expired.

Statistically, the two teams were very evenly matched on all account aside from rebounding (NSU edge 41-24 and turnovers Mary edge 10-16). 

Leading the way for the Wolves was the freshmen duo of Emily Becken and Mikayla Barondeau.  Becken led the squad with 11 points on 3-8 shooting (4-5 FT) including 1-1 from three point land.

Barondeau recorded her fourth double-double of the season with her 10-point 12-rebound performance, the latter of the two stats leading the team. 

Kayla Schmidt also contributed nine points on 3-7 shooting in the game.

With the loss, the Wolves fall to 12-11 overall on the year, and 8-8 in the NSIC.  The University of Mary will jump the Wolves in the standings for eighth place in the conferece with the win, and and are now 13-10 overall and 8-8 in the NSIC.

The Wolves are next in action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to take on the Wayne State Wildcats on Friday and Augustana College on Saturday.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
