Men's Heptathlon Results - Day 1
ABERDEEN, S.D. – After Day 1 of the Northern State University Multis, NSU sophomore
Tanya Vassar posted a personal best in the women's pentathlon while senior
Brady Lesnar and freshman
Austin Suther sit in second and third place, respectively, through four events of the men's heptathlon.
Vassar claimed individual victory in the shot put and finished second individually in the 55-meter hurdles and the event-ending 800 meters to finish a mere 104 points behind Brianna Perry of the University of Mary, who won the overall event with 3,178 points.
NSU's
Laura Smith was third in that event with 2,935 points, just shy of her personal best.
On the men's side, Suther, competing in his first ever multis, won the 55-meter dash and the long jump to open the day, and led the 5-man field after the first three events before slipping into third place after the high jump. Suther's Day 1 mark of 2,429 points is just 45 points back of Ulysses Dalton of Minot State, who leads the event with 2,474 points and just seven points shy of Lesnar's Day 1 total of 2,436.
Lesnar started the day with a fourth place finish in the 55-meter dash, but slowly made up ground throughout the day, particularly in the shot put, where his mark of 11.84 meters (38-10.25 feet) gained him 597 points.
Suther, Lesnar and the rest of the field will conclude the 7-discipline event tomorrow. Action begins at 10 a.m. in the Barnett Center.
