#11 Mavericks Hold Down Wolves

Northern State falls to 0-4 in NSIC play

– The Northern State University women's basketball team had to play catch up again Saturday as the defending national champion Mavericks used a 15-point halftime advantage to cruise to a 72-56 final at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.

The loss drops the Wolves to 3-6 overall on the season and 0-4 in the Northern Sun.

The first half was very even in all aspects of the game, except for Minnesota State's three-point shooting.  The Mavericks were able to go 9-14 from behind the three-point line in mounting their early lead.  The Wolves, however, only shot 1-6 from three-land.

Jodie Reinschmidt led the first half scoring for the Wolves, going for 11 points on 5-8 shooting with five rebounds.  Sophomores Mikayla Barondeau and Jenna Higgins each notched six points in the first half.

The Wolves fell behind as much as 24 points in the first half, but were able to cut the lead to 47-32 at halftime behind a 12-3 run by the Wolves through the final 5:27 of the game.

The Wolves were able to close the lead to 11 points 55-44 on a jumper by Reinschmidt at the 14:42 mark.

Emily Becken's third three-pointer of the game cut the Mavericks lead to 55-47 with 13:45 remaining.

The Wolves could get no closer as the home team would finish off the game with a 72-56 final.

Mikayla Barondeau led the Wolves with her third double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points on 6-12 shooting and 10 rebounds, both of which led her team.

Junior Jodi Reinschmidt finished with 12 points, 11 of which came in the first half, on 5-9 shooting.  She also led the team with four assists.

Becken, who was held to only five points in the first half, finished with 13 points on 3-9 shooting from deep and 4-16 shooting overall.

The Wolves will be in action next Friday when they travel to Fargo, N.D. to battle with Division I North Dakota State.
