HASTINGS, Neb. - Despite out-hitting Hastings College 20-12 in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader, the Northern State baseball team lost both games, giving up one-run decisions in each game. The Wolves fell 10-11 in a game 1 scoring spree and 6-7 in game 2. NSU is now 2-2 on the year, while the Broncos improve to 6-9.

Game 1
Senior
Adam Kampsen started the day off with a first inning two-run homer to give the Wolves an early lead. The Broncos countered in the bottom of the inning, crossing two over the plate after walking four batters. Hastings had a huge second inning, batting around the horn and scoring six runs. The inning was started with two more walked batters. A sacrifice and pop fly gave the Woves two outs with no damage done, but a two-run triple and a grand slam put HC up 8-2.
The Wolves slowly climbed back into the game.
Tom Keiser singled to score Kampen in both the third and fifth innings, while a Broncos error resulted in two additional runs in the fifth, setting the score at 8-6. The Wolves took the lead in the sixth inning, scoring four runs with two outs.
Austin Simons drilled a triple to notch his first two RBIs of the season and put the Wolves up 10-8. Walked batters continued to hurt the Wolves in the final two Broncos at-bats. All three players who got on base with a walk came around to score, including the final two who were driven in in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game, 11-10 in favor of Hastings College.
Keiser and Simons both went 3-for-4 from the plate and drove in three runs each. Kampsen was 2-for-2 with a homerun, double, walk and sacrifice fly. NSU out-hit Hastings College 11-6 in the game. The Wolves tossers walked 11 batters, seven of which came around to score.
Dustin Harvey was the most productive pitcher for NSU, throwing four innings with three strikeouts and giving up two hits.
Game 2
Hastings College took the momentum of a comeback win in game one into the first two innings of game 2, scoring three runs in each inning. Pitching once again opened the door for the Broncos, as two walked batters and one hit by a pitch came around to score in the first inning. Hastings College came up with two RBI singles in the second inning.
The Wolves got on the board in the second inning, putting three baserunners on with one out.
Andrew Lunsetter knocked in the first run with a ground ball, followed by
Payton McCleary, who drove in two more runs with a double. The Wolves went into the sixth inning down 7-3. Simons started the inning off with a solo homerun.
Scott Iano and
Tyler Oliver reached on an error and a double. With two outs, Kampsen stepped to the plate and tightened the score to 7-6 with a two-run single. Keiser led off the seventh inning with a double, but the Wolves went down in order after that to end the game.
Kampsen batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Wolves in game 2. Simons, Iano and Oliver eached scored two runs. The Wolves once again out-hit the Broncos, this time by a 9-6 margin. They left eight runners on base.
Matt Geissler pitched the first four innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs while striking out four.
