ABERDEEN, S.D.: The Northern State Wolves wrestling team showed they had what it takes to stay with the top teams in the nation. Ninth ranked Upper Iowa University came to the Wachs Arena looking to take home an easy victory; the Wolves would not go quietly. The Wolves and the Peacocks traded matches, as both teams picked up five wins each. The deciding factor in the dual was Upper Iowa's two wins by pin. The Peacocks got started early with a pinfall in the 125 pound matchup as #3 Tyler Mumbulo picked up a quick victory over Corbin Surat. In the 133 pound weight class, the match went back and forth as Rick Schiley and Upper Iowa's Jacob Pedersen traded reversals. Pedersen picked up a nearfall in the second period and snuck away with a 10-7 decision to put the Peacocks up 9-0.

David Schiley
picked up his seventh straight victory in the 141 pound weight class with a 10-1 major decision. He used a takedown and two nearfalls early in the matchup to solidfy the victory. Ryan Larsen followed suit with a win in one of the most exciting matchups of the evening. Larsen defeated nationally ranked #4 Tee Adams in the 149 pound weight class to close the score to 9-7.

The Peacocks took control of the dual with another pin in the 157 pound matchup as #5 Travis Eggers pinned Dustin Bonn 4:42 into the matchup. The Wolves came back as Phillip Downs picked up a 3-2 win with the help of a takedown in the second period. In arguably the most exciting matchup of the evening. Senior Todd Naasz picked up a 7-5 overtime victory in the 197 pound weight class. The win was not without controversy. Naasz jumped out to an early lead with a takedown 12 seconds into the matchup. Upper Iowa's Matt Norton came right back and took the lead in the closing seconds of the third period. Norton got a takedown and almost picked up a pin within the closing seconds of the third period. Unfortunately, Norton's pin was not valid as the buzzer sounds before the ref called the pin. This meant that the two would have to go into overtime. Naasz picked up a quick takedown within the first 15 seconds of the overtime period to get the victory and pulled the Wolves within two points of the win. This marks Naasz's seventh straight victory and brings his record to 16-4

The great dual closed in dramatic fashion as the dual would not be decided until the very last period of the evneing. Going into the final matchup, the score was 18-16 Upper Iowa. Northern State's Jared Little had a tough draw as he had to face nationally ranked #6 Dan Goodson. The two wrestlers started slow and both got warnings for stalling in the fourth minute of the match. The two went scoreless through the first two periods as Goodson finally collected an escape and a takedown in the third for the win as well as locking up the dual for the Peacocks.
