DICKINSON, N.D. - The Northern State wrestling team pulled off another big win on Thursday evening, taking a 20-19 win over Dickinson State, ranked #4 in the latest NAIA national poll.  The Wolves split the matches evenly with the Blue Hawks and claimed the single point lead with a technical fall late in the dual.  Dickinson State had five ranked athletes in competitionNorthern is now 7-5 on the season, while the loss for Dickinson was their first dual loss of the year (4-1).

Donnie Bowden (174-lb.) started the night out on the right foot for the Wolves, recording a fall at the 6:32 mark to put NSU up 6-0.  The scored was quickly evened as #3 Jake Toavs pinned NSU's Robb Grussing in just 30 seconds.  The Wolves and Blue Hawks then traded decisions, with Todd Naasz (197-lb.) edging out his opponent, top-ranked (in NAIA rankings) Justin Schlect, 4-3.  

Northern's Corbin Surat posted a big win over #3 Cory Johnston at 125 pounds, winning a 6-4 decision.  Dickinson State gained an extra edge at the 133-lb. class as #3 Eli Zuniga marked a 14-4 major decision over Rick Schiley to put his team up 13-12 with four matches remaining.  David Schiley took his sixth straight win at 141 pounds by a score of 7-1 and was followed by a great effort by Ryan Larsen at 149 pounds.  Larsen dominated his opponent the whole match and gave the Wolves a win by technical fall, 17-1.  The big win put the Wolves up 20-13 with two classes remaining and proved to be the determining match of the night  The Blue Hawks marked six points with decisions in the final matches, but still came up short, 20-19.

Northern will bring the momentum of the past few weeks into a home dual with Upper Iowa next Saturday, February 8.  The Wolves are 1-0 in NSIC contests this season.
