FAYETTE, Iowa - The Northern State University women's soccer team recorded its third double-overtime draw in three weeks on Sunday after going the first seven weeks of the season without needing any additional time to determine game outcomes. The Wolves, in their final regular season contest of the 2008 season, battled to a 1-1 tie at Upper Iowa University Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
The Wolves, ranked tenth in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings, end the regular season with 10-7-3 overall and 6-4-3 NSIC marks and will await the NSIC post-season tournament pairings to be released on Monday. Upper Iowa moved to 9-8-4 on the year and 6-5-3 in conference action.
After a scoreless first half, NSU drew first blood less than three minutes into the second half when freshman midfielder
Kailee Hyland (Friendswood, Texas) notched her first career goal from four yards out to put the Wolves up 1-0. Sophomore
Maggie Fedor (Monticello, Minn.) and
Kirbie Wages (Great Falls, Mont.) were both credited with assists on the goal.
The Peacocks, however, tied things up on an Amy Campbell goal in the 60th minute, this one coming from 18 yards out off a Cara Mauldin assist.
Neither team was able to find the net in the final 29 minutes of regulation or in either of the golden-goal overtime periods, despite NSU's 5-2 advantage in OT shots, leaving the score tied at 1-apiece.
Sophomore
Dee Wood (Bothell, Wash.) worked all 110 minutes of the game in goal for the Wolves, moving to 3-4-1 on the year with the decision. Wood made six saves while allowing just the one goal in her first complete game since Sept. 27.
