CROOKSTON, Minn. - In their highest offensive putout of the season, the Northern State soccer team scored seven goals in a 7-1 win over Minnesota, Crookston Saturday afternoon on the road. The Wolves (6-3-1) took a 4-0 lead by the half and nearly shutout the Golden Eagles (2-7-0), allowing a goal with just nine minutes remaining in the game.
The Wolves' scoring spree started just minutes into the game as Steph Connolly put her team up 1-0 with a feed from
Maggie Fedor. Fedor had two goals of her own in the game, tallying one in each half. Freshman
KaSara Sutton had a big game in her own right, scoring her first collegiate goal at the 44:41 mark of the first half before opening the second half with her second goal at the 48:36 mark. Other goals in the game went to
Kirsten Saunders and Katherine Bronson.
Dee Wood protected the net for the entirety of the game, making three saves while allowing the one goal. It was Wood's second win of the season. UMC's lone goal of the game came at the 81:36 mark, saving them from their sixth shutout of the season.
The Wolves out-shot the Golden Eagles 17-1 in the first half and 25-6 in the game. They had 18 shots on goal to UMC's four. 11 different NSU players took at least one shot in the game.
The Wolves improve to 6-3-1 on the season, while UMC goes to 2-7-0. Northern heads to Bemidji, Minn. for a 1:00 pm meeting with the Beavers of Bemidji State tomorrow afternoon.
