ABERDEEN, S.D. - In the first of their two games on Gypsy Days 2007 weekend, the Northern State University Wolves (9-3-2, 2-0-1 NSIC) dominated the Wayne State College Wildcats (0-9-2, 0-3-0 NSIC), winning by a score of 6-0. In the very first minute of play, senior forward
Larissa Strychun put an unassisted shot into the back of the net, scoring her first goal of the season. Freshman
Maggie Fedor would pull a hat trick before the game was over.
About seven and a half minutes after Strychun's early goal, junior midfielder
Summer Swan put in a shot of her own giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead. This goal was
Summer Swan's first of the season and was assisted by sophomores Katie Bronson and
Kirsten Saunders. The next player to strike for the Wolves was freshman
Maggie Fedor. Fedor's first goal of the game was assisted by Katie Bronson and came in the 21st minute of play. Two minutes later, Fedor scored again to give the Wolves a 4-0 lead. The two goals were numbers 11 and 12 on the season for Fedor. Closing out the first half was freshman
KaSara Sutton who scored her third goal of the year and gave the Wolves a 5-0 lead as they headed in for the break.
The second half brought one more goal for the Wolves and freshman
Maggie Fedor. Fedor scored her third goal of the game and 13th of the season. The game ended with an impressive 6-0 victory for Northern Sate.
The Northern offense finished with six goals coming off 18 total shots; 11 on goal. Fedor led the scoring with three goals and was accompanied by Strychun,
Summer Swan, and Sutton each scoring a goal of their own. Katie Bronson dished out two assists and
Kirsten Saunders also dished out one of her own.
Northern's defense, led by senior
Kira Wannebo, sophomore
Laura Skog and junior
Maggie Madrid, was stellar all game long and only allowed the Wildcats five total shots. Goalkeepers Catherine Grace and
Dee Wood didn't see too much action, but they each made a save of their own in the shared shutout.
The Northern State Wolves are back in action tomorrow against the SMSU Mustangs at 1:00 pm at Jerde Field.
