ABERDEEN, S.D. - A goal in each half and another shutout gave the Northern State soccer team a 2-0 win over Concordia-St. Paul in the first round of the 2007 NSIC Soccer Tournament Wednesday afternoon. The win sends the Wolves (15-4-2) to the semifinal round, where they will face off with MSU Moorhead. The game will be played at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 3.

Maggie Madrid (D, 5-7, Jr., Petaluma, Calif.) and Alisha Martinez (M, 5-1, So., Westmister, Colo.) teamed up for the first goal of the game at the 28 minute mark. A scuffle in front of the net put the ball at Madrid's feet and she put the Wolves up 1-0 with her first goal of the season and second career goal. NSU led 1-0 at the half, outshooting the Golden Bears 8-3 in the first 45 minutes.

The Wolves went up 2-0 with a score by KaSara Sutton (M, 5-9, Fr., Aberdeen, S.D.) in the 71st minute of the game. Maggie Fedor (F, 5-9, Fr., Monticello, Minn.) took a shot that deflected off of the top post and dribbled in front of an empty goal, as the CSP keeper had laid out to make the save. Sutton came in to clean things up with her fifth goal of the season.

The Wolves took 20 shots in the game and had nine shots on goal from eight different players. They did not allow Concordia-St. Paul a single shot on goal in the shutout. The Golden Bears had just four shots in the contest. Kit Grace (GK, 5-8, Jr., Littleton, Colo.) earned the win and stands at 11-4-2 on the season.

With the win, NSU improves to 15-4-2 overall.
