Joe Gomez wrestled to his second straight NCAA All-American honor and an NCAA National Runner-up finish over the weekend. Gomez kicked off competition with a 3-2 decision victory over Marcus Haughlan of Colorado Mesa, and went on to defeat Evan Ramos of Shippensburg in an 8-5 decision later that day. The 2-0 day on Friday landed Gomez a guaranteed All-American honor and a spot in the NCAA National Semifinals. The junior defeated Jake Cramer of Tiffin in sudden death overtime with a two point takedown, earning himself a spot in the NCAA National Championship bout. Gomez fell to 2-time defending National Champion Romero Cotton in the finals, finishing the year with a record of 30-4. He was also honored as a finalist for the NCAA Elite 90 award.
