Mitchell, SD. – Northern State wrestling took on the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Open on Saturday grabbing podium finishes in nine of the ten weight classes.
Dayne Morton (133) and
Caden Moore (149) led the way win their respective brackets.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- In total the Wolves tallied 27 extra points victories including five major decisions, nine technical falls, and 13 victories by fall
- Landen Fischer tallied a fourth place finish for the Wolves at 125 pounds with a 4-2 record overall; notching wins over Romero of Minnesota WCT (fall 6:00), Baumgardner of Southwest Minnesota State (TF 20-3), Kryfka of Northwestern (maj 12-0), and Clopton of Briar Cliff
- Dayne Morton added to his bracket championships, winning the 133 pound class with four wins over Jeffries of Augustana (dec 5-1), Dobrocky of RCTC (TF 18-1), Buysse of Southwest Minnesota State (dec 9-2), and Lysius of Briar Cliff (dec 11-4)
- Kenny Jones went 3-2 on the day at 141 pounds, battling back after an opening round loss with wins over Bright of Briar Cliff (TF 17-0), Leon of Jamestown (maj 16-2), and Kleider of Northwestern (TF 18-1)
- Creighton Baughman brought home a fifth place finish at 141 pounds with a 4-2 record overall, recording wins over Miranda of Briar Cliff (fall 1:26), Sampson of Southwest Minnesota State (fall 6:54), Rodriguez of NSU (fall 1:37), and Shea of Briar Cliff
- Adam DeBoer added a fifth place finish of his own going 4-2 at 149 pounds with victories over Sawyer of Briar Cliff (fall 1:106), McGee of RCTC (fall 0:52), Copley of Northwestern (maj 18-4), and Briscoe of Nebraska Kearney
- After a second place finish in 2018, Caden Moore won the 149 pound bracket notching wins over Gonzalez of Concordia Nebraska (TF 16-0), Nyaen of Buena Vista (fall 4:39), Shields of Southwest Minnesota State (dec 5-2), Briscoe of Nebraska Kearney (dec 6-5), and Wills of Nebraska Kearney (inj 0:30)
- Tyson Stoebner finished the day with a 4-2 record, tallying wins over Stilson of Buena Vista (fall 2:22), Gonzalez of Concordia Nebraska (fall 3:28), Weiss of Wayne State (TF 16-1), and Thompson of NSU
- Hudson Pearman recorded three victories in the 157 pound bracket over Hackman of Jamestown (fall 5:38), Messersmith (dec 10-5), and Crawford of Concordia Nebraska (dec 7-6)
- Walker Carr and James Burks advanced to the fifth place match versus each other in the 157 pound bracket tying for sixth as they did not wrestle off for fifth
- Burks tallied wins over Llyod of RCTC (dec 5-3) and Tvinnereim of Augustana (dec 5-2), while Carr recorded victories over Hamann of Minnesota WCT (TF 16-0), Moore of Southwest Minnesota State (SV 6-4), and Crawford of Concordia Nebraska (maj 17-6)
- Bryan Burnett tallied two wins over Hackman of Jamestown (dec 8-2) and Kidd of RCTC (dec 6-2)
- Kelby O'Reilly took fourth in the 165 pound bracket with a 4-2 record, notching victories versus Gellerman of RCTC (dec 6-3), Sutter of Briar Cliff (fall 2:45), Meyer of Northwestern (fall 4:04), and Paulsen of Briar Cliff (dec 9-5)
- Cole Huss advanced to the championship bout at 174 pounds, taking second overall in a sudden victory match following wins versus Childers of Northwestern (TF 16-0), Voxland of Southwest Minnesota State (dec 9-7), and Kost of Augustana (dec 4-3)
- Tanner Weise added a sixth place finish at 174 with wins over Muinz of Briar Cliff (fall 4:21), Zeimen of Northwestern (dec 4-2), Marx of Southwest Minnesota State (dec 4-3), and Escarcega of Buena Vista (dec 7-6)
- Marcus Placide led the Wolves at 184 pounds, placing third overall with victories over Ramirez-Garcia of Concordia Nebraska (dec 8-1), Trumble of NSU (TF 16-0), Christoffersen of RCTC (maj 12-2), Peterson of Augustana, and Stamper Smith (fall 1:39)
- Diego Gallegos was the final Wolf to place at the open, taking fifth at 197 pounds with victories over Phillips of Buena Vista (3-1), Demos of Nebraska Kearney (SV 11-9), and Shanks of Briar Cliff
- Caleb Lefferdink tallied two decision victories versus Cisneros of Wayne State (3-2) and Dollison of Briar Cliff (11-8)
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Baughman notched a team leading three victories by fall, while ten of the 24 Wolves in competition recorded at least one pin
