Indianapolis – Three Wolves took on the second day of the Midwest Classic, after advancing through the opening rounds, and came away with two podium finishes. No. 12
Caden Moore led the Wolves taking sixth, while
Billy Holtan finished eight.
Dayne Morton advanced to the second day for the Wolves at 125 pounds, but fell in his opening match of the day to Joe Arroyo of Wisconsin Parkside in a 3-2 decision.
Moore had a busy Sunday, wrestling four matches in the 149-pound weight class. He defeated Austin Shaw of Seton Hill in a 17-8 major decision, followed by a 7-2 decision victory over Dalton Flint of Emmanuel. The freshman then fell to Trey Grine of Tiffin and Isaiah Kemper of McKendree in his final two matches with scores of 12-4 and 7-3. He finishes his weekend with a 5-3 record overall.
Holtan advanced in the consolation round at 165-pounds with a DQ victory over Matthew Rodriguez of Limestone. The redshirt freshman then battled with Bret Romanzak of Ashland and Shelden Struble of Indianapolis, falling by decision in both matches.
Northern will return to Wachs Arena following the holiday break for a pair of NSIC duals. The Wolves will face off against Augustana and Southwest Minnesota State at 7 p.m. on January 3 and 10.
