Jim Schlekeway earned his bachelor's degree from NSU in 1968 and later returned to earn his master's degree. Shlekeway played football for NSU then turned to collegiate track and field, and basketball. He still holds several NSU basketball records.
He was named 1984 Region II Basketball Coach of the Year and in 1987 was inducted into the South Dakota Independent Basketball Hall of Fame.
Schlekeway is married to 1968 NSU Gypsy Queen Marilyn Wik and together they have two children.
