Gary Grove is regarded as one of the most dominant pitchers in NSU history. During his career from 1970-73, he compiled an astounding 50-7 record on the mound for the Wolves, never losing more than two games in any regular season. As a senior, he was named an Outstanding College Athlete of America, leading the nation in wins with 16 while sporting a 1.54 earned run average. His career ERA is 2.23. Grove also boasts a career batting average of .370. He won the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference batting title in 1973 with a .444 average at the plate. Grove was a two-time All-American, All-Area and All-District performer, as well as a three-time All-Conference selection. Grove also competed in basketball for two years while at NSU.
Grove graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1974, and then he worked at various high schools as a teacher and coach.
Grove has one son.
